We Gathered at Long Beach – Thank You Cambodia Town

We gathered in Long Beach this past weekend with our friends at Cambodia Town for the very first Laughter Is the Best Medicine community event. And something meaningful happened.

A few audience members came up to me afterward and shared that, with everything they’ve been navigating (mental health, immigration, socio-economic uncertainty, etc), this was the first time they had laughed in months.

The comedians did what great comedians do: they told stories in ways that made us laugh and reflect at the same time. But what stayed with me most wasn’t just the jokes. It was the atmosphere in the room. The quiet recognition that none of us is carrying life alone.

In my years facilitating mental health workshops, some of the most powerful breakthroughs don’t begin with heavy conversations. They begin with a smile. Someone laughs. The room softens. And suddenly, people feel safe enough to be human with one another. That’s the power of community. And that’s exactly what we felt in Long Beach.

This gathering was made possible through our partnership with Cambodia Town and the incredible community members who showed up with open hearts and a willingness to share space together. Specifically, I want to thank Richer and Sithea San for this amazing opportunity and for inviting us!

To everyone who came out, thank you!

To the comedians: Joy RegullanoLa the Comedian, and Milan Patel, who brought their voice and courage to the stage, thank you!

To the Laughter Team: Bryan Sui, Kimberly Lin, Lilian Lin, Natalie Lortz, Rydre, and Sebastian, who helped out throughout the event, thank you!

And this is only the beginning.

We have two more Laughter Is the Best Medicine gatherings coming up on May 16 and June 13.
At these upcoming events, we’ll continue partnering with community organizations, tabling mental health resources, and sharing small giveaways so people leave with both inspiration and practical support.

Long Beach gathering reminded us that people are hungry for connection. Sometimes the most powerful medicine is simply a room full of people laughing together.

We would love to have you with us. Please register for the upcoming events, follow along on Instagram, and share this with someone who might need a little more laughter in their life.

Because laughter may not fix everything. But it can remind us that we are stronger and lighter when we face life together.

With gratitude!
