The Virus and Mental Health: 5 Essential Tools to Keep Moving Forward
In collaboration with SASE (The Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers), I’ve given my very first webinar on how to maintain your mental health, your well-being, and how to keep moving forward during this pandemic.
Everyone is impacted by the COVID-19 virus. I want to thank all our medical experts, grocery workers, first responders, cleaning crews and selective public officials for keeping us safe.
The reality is that the majority of people are struggling. The level of disruptions and challenges varies from person to person. For me, the disruptions include the disappointment from all the missed or loss of opportunities, the financial uncertainty, and the deprivation of choices like the option of working at a coffee shop, or simply a walk down the street to my favorite restaurant bar. These disruptions are seriously affecting my mental health and overall wellness.
These disappointments and disruptions are creating fear, insecurity, uncertainty, and regret inside me. These fears, the insecurity, uncertainty and regret are fueling my depression and anxiety.
The ways that these fears, insecurity, uncertainty, and regrets manifest in my mind are: “Why is this happening to me?” “My life sucks!” “I don’t deserve this!” “I hate my life!” “My life is over!” “I am a failure!” “I don’t know what to do!” “What’s the point of living and surviving?” “I am all alone!” “No one gives a shit about me,” etc.
These feelings and thoughts are real and scary. If I am not careful and keep them in check every minute or hour, they can easily overwhelm me and I can plummet into another episode of depression.
So, in this webinar, I share the 5 Essential Tools that I have been using to keep up my mental health and keep those negative thoughts and feelings at bay.
The Five Tools Are:
- Identify and Acknowledge Your Discomforts
- Understand What’s Fueling Your Discomforts
- Process the Underlying Feelings and Thoughts that are Fueling Your Discomforts
- Transform Those Discomforts
- Find Compassion, Love and Patience Within
Enjoy!
